What I’ve Learned From the Documentary “Free Solo”
It’s been a while since my last article here (well… there’re some unpublished posts in the draft). The reason why I wanna talk about this film (Free Solo) is that it inspired me very much unexpectedly. There’re so many quotes in the documentary, which you can find them online anywhere. Somebody related the film to the lessons of leadership, indeed, it’s really the kind of inspirational stories that everyone can learn something from.

So what about me? The key point that I’ve learned from the film?
Always plan if you want to achieve something. It’s all about planning, thinking about the strategies and the action steps that make it works… then it requires practice, practice, and practice… as if it’s a real show, there’s no take two. That’s why practicing is the only way for you to make the best out of it.
Rock climbing has been the recent sport that fascinated me a lot. Just a beginner with very few practical experiences. The reason why I love this sport is exactly how focus it takes to reach that goal you aim for. It requires strategies, a calm mind that allows you to plan. Well, everyone who knows me will surely agree that I’m the kind of free-spirited, spontaneous, reckless girl… Rock climbing is that thing that can make me a better person. I planned to do rock climbing a long time ago… but I didn’t take any action, not until my trip to Krabi this February. I had my first climbing attempt at Railey Beach… an amazing place for new rock climbers… then I finally took the rock climbing course to make myself qualified to do such kind of sports (yea… it happened last week on a rainy day)…
“For Sanni, the point of life is like, happiness. To be with people that make you feel fulfilled and to have a good time. For me, it’s all about performance. The thing is- anybody can be happy and cozy. Nothing good happens in the world by being happy and cozy. You know, nobody achieves anything great because they’re happy and cozy .”
I quoted this because this is the most thought-provoking part I felt. That’s what Alex Honnold said. Found that not many reviews mentioning this quote, anyway, no right or wrong answer to this, but it kinda let me feel, “to do something good, you need to have the end goal, see the performance, only when you pay an effort to perform, you realize how’s your performance.” Same as the current situation that I’m encountering… if I want a job change, I need to plan it, in an organized way, take action, do it over and over again if it fails… allows failure… allows yourself to bail… but not sitting and waiting… as after all, you can achieve nothing if you just sit and wait, stay happy and cozy.
That’s a long and unorganized piece. Always writing what I am thinking… this is not good to the audience (if any)… well, not a professional blogger, but one day I’ll come back and craft my post again.
